The Meme?

I learned a new word today! It's one of those "new" technology words, affiliated with the world of blogging and web-techies, though it was apparently coined by British biologist Richard Dawkin around 1976.

It's not a word that my mother or father (if they were alive) would use. It's not a word that most of my friends (though they are, for the most part, gainfully employed -- or retired) are familiar with. It's probably not even a word my nieces (in spite of their familiarity with MySpace, FaceBook, and all that jazz) count as part of their vocabulary -- like, you know what I mean?

Meme .... I believe the widely accepted pronunciation is "meem" (as in seem and dream). According to The Daily Meme, a meme is -

*An idea that, like a gene [hence the Dawkin connection], can replicate and evolve.
*A unit of cultural information that represents a basic idea that can be transferred from one individual to another, and subjected to mutation, crossover, and adaptation.
*A cultural unit (an idea, value, or pattern of behavior) that is passed from one generation to another by nongenetic means (as by imitation); "memes are the cultural counterpart of genes."

All very interesting. But in the bigger scheme of things, how do I relate to memes? What am I supposed to do with memes?

I think meme is generally accepted as a noun; but will it evolve into a verb -- as blog has?

Check back later .... Maybe in a year or so, I will have mastered memes. Meanwhile, I'm just workin' on a blog.

Between

I had never heard of this movie before. Between (2005), starring Poppy Montgomery, is a look at love and life, life and death, death and dreams. It’s a movie that you find yourself participating in. What is this mystery, what is the meaning of this? Who, where, how?

See it if you get a chance.

Time to Blog!

I am stepping into this world called "blogging." All of the marketing experts claim it's necessary to become actively involved in social networking sites - like blogs, twitter, facebook .... They say this is how people connect and how they do business.

My, my. The world sure has changed.

Do you blog?
